One of Portsmouth’s oldest houses, Wymering Manor is a rare survivor from Elizabethan times
The Wymering Manor Trust has been set up to restore, convert and build a sustainable future for the manor, for local people to enjoy as their ‘home from home’, as we manage the building to earn its keep by letting rooms for events, meetings, education and training, putting on plays, ghost hunting, socialising and new activities.
Once restored, it will be a centre for the local community and a catalyst for regeneration of much deserving Wymering and Cosham, offering help in wellbeing, tackling loneliness and isolation, developing personal skills and bringing the community together to shape its future.
Explore The Manor’s History
Wymering Manor’s revival will allow people to explore the Manor’s stories in person at the Manor, and through a wide range of digital interpretation, building on the work of the Wymering History Hunters, and student projects from the architecture course at Portsmouth University. Embracing community
Wymering Manor is blessed with active, enthusiastic and knowledgable volunteers who get involved with everything from maintenance to open days to gardening. Our project plans will introduce a café in time where local people can drop by for a coffee and a chat, find out more about the history of the house, or maybe take part in a book exchange or seed swap. Pop in for coffee, and go home with a book.
There will also be opportunities to become part of the community garden project, where they can grow flowers and produce in a mutually supportive and sharing group of like-minded people.
Refurbished spaces on the top floor will provide spaces for seedling entrepreneurial micro-businesses, offering meeting facilities, fast and reliable connectivity and a warm, co-operative environment for business to thrive and grow. Brilliant broadband will combine with barista coffee and Elizabethan woodwork.
Wymering Manor is Haunted!
We were featured on Most Haunted Live – Panic In Portsmouth in 2006. With our history of being one of the oldest buildings in Portsmouth the manor has earned the moniker of ‘Hampshire’s Most Haunted house’, by David Scanlan, founder of the Hampshire Ghost Society.
